JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of this classification is to perform manual labor in support of maintaining and repairing gas distribution lines. Duties and responsibilities include uncovering gas lines and mains; removing and replacing lines/mains; test and purge lines using natural and inert gas, and air; replacing valves; joining plastic lines and pipes; abandoning and deactivating gas lines to include mains and services; occasionally operating equipment/trucks when needed. Under close supervision, reports to Gas Construction Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Prior experience and working knowledge in all aspects of utility construction preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School diploma or GED required.
• Must have a valid Tennessee Drivers License.
• Must posses CDL be able to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Must be able to wear mandatory safety equipment.
• On call personnel must live within 10 miles of Town limits to handle a 15-minute response time for emergencies in the Town.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. • Performs a variety of manual labor tasks in support of maintaining and repairing lines: digging work areas, moving and removing pipes, replacing valves, removing and replacing covers; driving and assisting in installation and repair of utilities; does manual labor as required.
• May do some welding and fabrication.
• Operates the following and other equipment at a as needed: rock saw, back hoe, trencher, dump truck, bobcat, jet truck, tapping machine; performs maintenance checks to equipment operated.
• Assists in fuzing gas pipes and valves.
• Assists in joining plastic pipes with mechanical, stab, and lyco fittings.
• Utilizes butt fusion, saddle fusion, and electrofusion equipment to repair or construct gas lines.
• Assist in conducting air tests to ensure newly installed pipes meet specifications.
• Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, washing/cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop/work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment; reports any issues to Supervisor/Manager.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide coverage in absence of other personnel.
• Other duties as assigned
